Vernissage: The Joy of Everyday Life – in the Netherlands and Denmark

My exhibition on Dutch Golden Age and Danish Golden Age genre painting, The Joy of Everyday Life – in the Netherlands and Denmark (28 January – 16 June 2024), opened at the Nivaagaard Collection in Nivå, Denmark. Featuring 117 paintings and drawings, it was the biggest exhibition at this museum ever. It was also the most comprehensive exhibition of Dutch genre painting in Denmark to date and constitutes the biggest display of Dutch 17th-century painting in Denmark ever. It encompassed international loans from the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; Stichting P. & N de Boer, Amsterdam; Kremer Collection, Amsterdam; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Fondation Custodia, Paris; Royal Collection, London; Nationalmuseum, Stockholm; Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg; Leiden Collection, New York, and domestic loans from Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen; Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen; Hirschsprung Collection, Copenhagen; Thorvaldsens Museum, Copenhagen; ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Aarhus; Ribe Art Museum, Ribe; Museum Salling, Skive; Kunst Museum Panbo, Kolding; and private collections in Syracuse, New York and in Klintholm, Denmark. The exhibition was enthusiastically received by the press.
